What can we do? In the current circumstances, charitable fund-raising event opportunities are limited when we can’t meet in person.  Even the old standby of a raffle is difficult when we can’t sell the tickets! Enter the simple idea of a 100 Club. This is defined as a small society lottery in the Gambling Act 2005 and ours is registered with Lancaster City Council, registration number SL0014. What does it cost to join Each number costs £12.00 and is valid for 1 year from 1st January 2021. There is no limit to how many numbers each person/club can buy, but if the total number application exceeds 100-multiple number requests will be limited. Fylde Soroptimists Raise £1300 To Bring Christmas Cheer!

Fylde Soroptimists have been selling Christmas hampers full of homemade and locally sourced products to raise much needed funds for their charities including Fylde Coast Women’s Aid and Mary’s Meals. Members came up with the idea of producing 100 hampers to celebrate the centenary of the organisation at the end of November. Since then, they have been busy producing home-made jams, chutney, piccalilli, sweet treats and mini-Christmas cakes. And the knitters amongst them have made crackers filled with sweets and festive cosies for Terry’s chocolate oranges.  Local companies including Foxes Biscuits, McAdams Rock, Fishermen’s Friends and Lancashire Magazine have also been very supportive and donated goodies to be included in the hampers.  Once assembled in a Covid safe area, the hampers were kept stored for over 72 hours prior to delivery to ensure the guidelines were adhered to. SI Blackburn embrace the 2:6 Challenge - and more One club - Blackburn Soroptimists - have made a short video to give a brief glimpse into the wide range of activities SI Blackburn members have been involved with over the last 3 months. From walking and working on the allotment for the 2.6 Challenge to raise funds for UK Charities such as Humraaz and the Wish Centre, running up and down 26 stairs while moving house, baking cakes for a local care home, to knitting for the Hamlin Fistula Centre. Sleeping out to raise funds for Nightsafe, acts of kindness during Mental Health Awareness Week, not to mention free rhubarb! Shoe Share and Advocacy. It’s arrived! It’s been a long time in the making, but the new SIGBI website has finally been launched and along with it a lovely new look-and-feel for all the individual club and regional sites like this one. OK, it might not be the most significant news that’s happening in the world this week, but we’re rather proud of it and we’d like to show it off! What do you think?
