What did Fylde Soroptimists get up to last week?

Fylde Soroptimists’ Fancy Dress Charity Dog Walk – 14 April 2019

Fylde Soroptimists are continuing with their fundraising activities to both raise their profile and also raise much-needed funds for the local charities they support – Fylde Coast Women’s Aid and Fylde Food Bank being the main ones this year.

On Sunday, Fylde Soroptimists, friends and supporters braved cold winds on Lytham Green to take part in a fun dog walk.  All dogs were invited to dress up with a super doggy hamper prize for the best dressed – and doggy treats for all!  Following the walk, there was chance to grab refreshments at the EcoPod at Park View and enjoy freshly baked cakes from one of the stalls hosted by Soroptimists to help raise monies.  There was also a tombola stall with hundreds of prizes, a huge raffle of over 30 prizes, a book stall and lots of Easter eggs.

The dogs’ outfits were judged by local businesswoman, Karen Gallagher, and the prizes presented by Brenda Blackshaw, a friend of Fylde Soroptimists and a dog lover herself.  Each entrant received a certificate and the winner was Jonti the Bee, owned by Siuna Reid of the Veterinary Health Centre, greenways, St Annes, with Bailey the Chicken as runner-up and Dolly the Mermaid in third place.

The event raised well over £550 which will be a great help in furthering the work Fylde Soroptimists undertake with the Fylde Coast Women’s Aid and other charities they support.

A huge thank you to all the very kind supporters, those who donated the super raffle prizes, tombola items, books and cakes; the dog-walkers; the helpers on the day and, of course, the doggies who allowed themselves to be dressed as everything from a chicken to a ballet dancer!
