On Monday 10 Oct the Club held a lovely Club development meeting at Greenwood URC. Members met face to face and split into three groups for discussions. A lot has changed at our Club since we last reviewed how the Club works and the Club has had to adapt during the pandemic. Members are all encouraged to complete a survey so that all the feedback can be considered and incorporated into plans for a way forward which we plan to implement in the new year.
There are no pics of the group discussions, but we were delighted on the night to be able to present Janet Tansley with her 35 years long service award! Congratulations Janet – we love the T Shirt! Janet is a Member of the Club’s Planet Team – see below for more about the Club’s tree planting.
On Thu 13 Oct four members met in Fleetville Park St Albans to search for our Centenary tree (and have a coffee together). The hornbeam that was planted last Autumn looks like it is thriving and is pictured here with (l to r) Sarah Lichman, Barbara Saunders and Helen Byrne (thanks to Gill Clegg for being the photographer). The tree was planted to celebrate the SIGBI Centenary 2021 Project – #PlantTrees for a Brilliant Future. The Club raised £255 to pay for this beautiful tree and we hope it continues to thrive. Hornbeams are native to Hertfordshire – mainly found in ancient woodlands – https://www.hertswildlifetrust.org.uk/wildlife-explorer/trees-and-shrubs/common-hornbeam The beautiful artwork here is our tree sponsorship commemoration insert, that has been added to the Tree Book of Remembrance that is sited in the St Albans City Hall.
In March this year we had a great evening on Zoom about the Queen’s Green Canopy Project https://sigbi.org/st-albans-and-district/2022/qgc/
The Club is no stranger to tree planting – see the photo here of past-President Eileen Slope in 2000 planting a tree in St Peter’s St St Albans for the millennium. The lime tree is still there, only much bigger, just round the corner from the Civic Centre in St Albans.
