St Albans Tree Walk

Club Members and friends enjoyed a “tree walk” around St Albans on Monday 28th July.

25-TreeWalkwebJane Ellis led the group in an enjoyable walk through St Albans pointing out many trees of particular significance including a London Plane tree in St Peter’s Street which was planted by the St Albans Soroptimists in 2001 “as a living symbol of their role as a global voice for women” (pictured here). Many of the trees were planted as commemorations and the Council displays the special illustrated St Albans Tree Book of Remembrance which can be seen on the balcony of the space open to the public in the Council Offices. Other trees included the Holm Oak (also known as the Holly Oak) in front of the Abbey, planted for ecumenism (also pictured here).

The walk ended with drinks and a meal that the group felt they had earned at  “Ye Olde Fighting Cocks”.
