During 2017/18 the members of Soroptimist International Bournemouth pledged to twin 80 toilets to mark the club’s 80th anniversary. Good sanitation and drinking water are fundamental to communities. Yet 1 in 3 people worldwide don’t have access to somewhere safe, private or hygienic to go to the toilet. The human and economic impact of this is enormous. Toilet Twinning (https://toilet twinning.org) is a charity that has been running since 2010; its approach is about dignity and self-respect as much as it is about alleviating poverty and accessing safe sanitation. SIB felt this was a worthy project and we were delighted to achieve fund raising to twin 80 toilets in places around the globe during our 80th year. These photos are a sample of our success in helping to flush away poverty.
