Last night, on International Women’s Day, Club members joined in celebrations with the West End Women and Girls Centre whom we have supported over recent years. Please see our previous posts re. our supporting their Domestic Violence Champions and more recently, a club member, Christine, was successful in securing £10.000 of funding to support the WEWGC ‘s farm in Northumberland.

One of our members, Christine, described the event to those who were unable to attend, as follows: ‘You missed a wonderful party in the West End on Tuesday – hundreds of women and girls and families turned up. The road was closed outside the centre for a brief time while a very large red carpet was rolled across the zebra crossing and a young girl cut a ribbon stretched across the crossing light poles and opened the event soon after 6.0pm. There was a fairground ( all free rides ) with swing boats, a helter skelter and the wonderful galloping horses. There were free ice creams from a van, and an assorted of delicious food to sample from bhaji s and samosas and cakes, hot dogs and drinks. All the time a guy sat at his mini play desk with a wonderful selection of music that rang round the area. The projections of women on the front of the building was interesting and inside in the main upstairs hall they had a photographic display of 40 notable women who had helped the Centre reach its 40 years anniversary . The event closed with fireworks at 8.0pm but it was such a happy and celebratory event with loads of laughter and activity.”
