Club Celebrates 61st Birthday at AGM

Members of Soroptimist International St Albans and District enjoyed a lively Annual General Meeting in April. The AGM marked the end of the Club’s 61st year, and the start of the Club’s 62nd year with a celebration to end President Rita’s excellent year and to start a new Club year in style with President Linda Shall at the helm.

We were delighted that SI London Chilterns Region President Margaret Badley was able to join us for this special occasion (pictured above in fits of laughter while comparing Regalia with President Rita). Margaret came with two other hounoured guests from our Region, Rita Beaumont and Pauline Panter. We were also very fortunate to have our guest and “sister” Margaret VanLaan Martin from SI Chico in California – our friendship link (please see the photo above of Margaret presenting gifts of bars of lavendar soap for each of our Members and bags of special Californian popped corn to Rita and Sally Bear).

The Club was sorry to say goodbye to Marian Titchmarsh who has decided to retire having been a Club Member for 36 years. Marian recently celebrated her 90th Birthday and at the AGM President Rita was able to present her with a personalised photo card of memories and a glass photo frame – as you can see in the photo above Marian had a lovely evening.

All the Officers of the Club gave their reports which can be found in the Members’ Section of this website, Rita went through the busy year she had as Club President (Sally Bear reminded the Editor that she had a busy year too!) – as an aide-memoir just scroll down through the Club News on this website. Our new President Linda addressed the Club as President for the first time – please see Linda’s message on this web page: www.sigbi.org/st-albans/president

The last task before the celebrations was for Linda to present Rita with her Past President’s badge and a framed montage of photographs of Rita’s year as President as a memento and thank you gift (see the photo above with Linda, Rita and Sally Bear).
