Charity Quiz Night Success for St Albans Soroptimists

Soroptimist St Albans Quiz 2023The Charity Quiz Night on Sat 25 March was a sell-out and a great success raising £1350 for the St Albans and Hertsmere Women’s Refuge and other charities supported by the Club.

It was great to be back at our favourite St Albans quiz venue, Homewood Road URC Church Hall. The last time we were here was in 2019 and we cancelled the one planned for March 2020 due to COVID and haven’t been able to run it again until now. This is always the Club’s last big fundraiser for the Club’s end of year in April so it was brilliant to be so well supported.

Soroptimist St Albans Quiz 2023The Quiz Master was Derek Palmer who challenged everyone’s brain cells on the night with some really interesting and varied rounds. Derek is the Club’s co-President Barbara Saunders’ husband and Barbara did a brilliant job supporting him for example Derek tested the questions on her ahead of the event. Barbara was the MC for the evening keeping everyone to time and and keeping scores too. Ian Byrne organised and ran the music round which meant Soroptimist St Albans Quiz 2023 Louise Teamaccessing another part of the brain – always a great idea. If people didn’t know the answers to many of the questions posed before the quiz, they will have gone away knowing many more useful (?) things than they did before. Team “Outciders” were the winners but two of the other ten teams were neck and neck for most of the evening making it a close-run thing.

Soroptimist St Albans Quiz 2023 Jane TeamThe fish and chip supper from the Ridgeway Fish Bar in Marshalwick went down very well as always.

The money was raised from a combination of ticket, raffle and bar sales and we thank everyone for their generosity which will make a difference to the Women’s Refuge and the other charities supported by the Club. We also thank everyone who helped before, during and after the event – these things are always a big team effort by our Club Members and our supporters.
