


2 teams of Club members at Cartmel Village Hall Quiz 2nd March 2019
Twelve Soroptimists formed 2 teams for the annual Cartmel Village Hall quiz., to suppport the village hall where we meet. We didn’t win but a good time was had by all.

Soroptimists attend Victoria Hall thank you afternoon 2nd March 2019
5 members attended the Victoria Hall Balcony Seat Refurbishment afternoon in recognition of the donation made by the club to refurbish 2 seats.

Burns Night Celebration Jan 25th 2019 for Springfield Women’s Refuge
Grange Soroptimists and guests totalling 60 people came together to celebrate Burns Night at Cartmel Village Hall and raised a fantastic sum of £586.30 for Springfield Women’s refuge in Kendal. The haggis was expertly piped in by Mervyn Hamilton and Stan Robinson addressed the haggis . Everyone enjoyed the food and the speeches. Lesley Smyth did the Immortal memory, Alastair Allan the toast to the lassies and Cathy Lubelska replied with a witty poem. The evening was rounded off with singing lead by Dot Davies with Barry Sharkey providing expert piano accompaniment, then we had a quick dance and Auld Lang Syne. Many members worked hard to make it all happen and the club was grateful for the support from fellow Soroptimists , friends and family! Christmas tree Festival St Paul’s Church Dec 2018
The club depicted the carol ” It came upon the Midnight Clear” at the annual Christmas Tree festival at St Paul’s Church.
Christmas Party Dec 11th 2018
Members enjoyed a lovely meal, friendship and fun at the annual Christmas Party at Hampsfell House Hotel. Members were delighted to bestow Honorary Membership on 3 long standing Club members.
International Day for the Abolition of Slavery
Members marked International Day for the Abolition of Slavery ( Dec 2nd ) with a display on Modern Day Slavery in Grange Libraru. Club members also did a quiz on the subject at the Club meeting.
Visit of Regional President 4 Dec 2018
Members were delighted to welcome Regional President Alison Driver to their meeting. Alison also kindly inducted new member Tricia Calway.
Collection of Bedding, Clothes and Toiletries for Barrow Women’s Centre Dec 2nd 2018
Members appealed for bedding and other items for the Women’s Centre and were delighted by the response of Grange residents. A massive amount of really good quality bedding, clothes, toys and toiletries were collected in a 2 hour period and six carloads are to be delivered to the centre.
Christmas Fair Fundraising for Club Charities Dec 1st 2018
Members ran a stall at the Christmas Fayre in the Victoria Hall and raised £173 sellinng Christmas gifts and treats including 5 dozen mince pies! The money is for Club Charities.
