Some 30 miles west of Nairobi, Kenya, lies the town of Limuru. Limuru was once the site of a shoe factory that employed some 8,000. Now the factory has drastically reduced its operations, and Limuru has high unemployment and homelessness. It is home to tea plantations and has many slums. The HIV/AIDS pandemic has orphaned thousands of children, many of whom live on the streets, where they are often involved in theft, drug trafficking and prostitution.
