Soroptimists reward students for work

TWO Portland College students have received awards from Soroptimist International Mansfield and District.

The immediate past president, Kath Whittingham, rewarded Manuella Aluk and Chloe Franczak for completing studies in environmental-related subjects, which coincided with her them for the year.

Kath said the ethos of Soroptimism is to empower women and girls to achieve their full potential and there was no better way of achieving this than through education and learning.

She added that she was impressed with the young women from Portland, who experienced many more challenges in life due to their disability. Kath agreed to make two additional small awards from expenses allocated for her presidency. Two £25 WHSmith gift tokens were presented to Manuella and Chloe, congratulating both for their achievements.
