Dress A Girl Around The World is a program that discourages traffickers from kidnapping young girls from developing countries. Traffickers prey on young girls who are dressed in shabby clothing, because shabby clothing usually indicates that the girl is not well cared for or maybe is orphaned. No one will miss her in other words. A girl that’s wearing a nice dress sends a signal that someone will miss her, thus discouraging the trafficker. The other benefit to giving these girls a nice dress is that it improves their self-esteem and gives them hope because someone far away, that doesn’t even know her, loves her and wants her to have a better life. The girls are then able to go to school and get and education.
The photo above left shows a young girl’s clothing before she received her new frock, pictured right.
Members and friends of SI Mansfield and District are busy sewing these simple dresses.
The group photo top right shows girls outside their school, proudly showing their new frock. A meter of cotton fabric will make a dress. Fabric donations welcomed, new members welcomed www.sigbi.org/mansfield
