Jabalpur is in India,  Mansfield & District SI paid for young girls in the community to be trained in  sewing and typing skills .We also funded  the  purchase of sewing machines to  assist in the training.  As a result local women can now earn a living and support their families, without resorting to prostitution Jabalpur  is a city in the state of Madhya Pradesh in India.   Jabalpur is one of the most important cities of Central India. It is the administrative headquarters of Jabalpur district .The holy ‘Narmada’ river flows through the District which is the major drinking water source . There is a multipurpose ‘Bargi Dam’ Project on this river.                       ¨

Limuru is in Kenya, Africa where there is an agricultural college,  Mansfield & District SI supports one female student each year at this college, and this gives them  skills for life  As a result they have a means of earning a living for themselves and their families Some 30 miles west of Nairobi, Kenya, lies the town of Limuru. Limuru was once the site of a shoe factory that employed some 8,000. Now the factory has drastically reduced its operations, and Limuru has high unemployment and homelessness. It is home to tea plantations and has many slums.  The HIV/AIDS pandemic has orphaned thousands of children, many of whom  live on the streets, where they are often involved in theft, drug trafficking and prostitution.

Anne who is a member and Past President of SI Mansfield & District along with her husband Mike organise set and run a quiz night which includes a Pie & pea supper. All monies raised at this popular annual event goes to the Presidents chosen charity which this year was Diabetes UK. Part of the funds (£650) raised was given to the Juvenile Diabetic Research Fund (JDRF). Anne’s granddaughter was diagnosed with Juvenile Diabetes at 11 years of age. As well as working for Soroptimist charities, Anne & Mike fundraise for the JDRF
