Our retiring President worked tirelessly with her theme of Enabling Partnerships which reflected her interests and skills. As we were work colleagues for many years it is hardly surprising that my interests and skills lay in the same area – supporting & enabling families to provide for children with severe and complex Special Educational Needs & Disabilities.
It is not a regular occurrence in this country that children do not have enough food although it does happen but in African countries women struggle to feed their young families and without full tummies children are unable to learn, one of the most prized aspirations that all humans should have fulfilled.
This year I want to focus on making a difference for some of those families which I will do by supporting the charity Mary’s Meals – we are not going to change the world but we can make a contribution to a few and if we are successful in playing a small part then I think our commitment to being Soroptomists will have been fulfilled.
SI Mansfield has been a committed and vibrant club doing excellent work on behalf of Soroptimist International for 50+ years and I know that ongoing support from its members will make sure this continues.
