Orange Weekend for St Albans Soroptimists!

Jane Ann Ameeta New Ground CohousingOn Sat 24 Jun we had a lovely time at the New Ground Summer Party (a cohousing development where Ann, one of our Members lives).  Ann is pictured here with Jane (l) and Ameeta (r). Jane with orange ladies from New Ground CohousingThis turned out to be an unexpectedly orange afternoon with nasturtiums in bloom and some of the residents wearing orange too – Jane was able to explain why orange is important to Soroptimists – a vibrant colour to represent a world without violence against women and girls. Please see the website from the New Ground visit to our Club in 2019 https://sigbi.org/st-albans-and-district/2019/wtd19/ It was after that we were first invited to visit, but COVID got in the way!

Orange Cafe Helen Janet SarahOn Sun 25 Jun Helen, Janet and Sarah had an Orange Walk and Cafe – wearing orange to promote the Orange the World campaign to end violence against women and girls.

They braved the baking heat to start the Club’s foray into Orange Cafes on 25th of the month by adapting a planned Planet Team Walk into a walk in orange through Verulamium Park finishing for coffee at The Inn on the Park on Sunday 25th June.

As you can see from the picture, our trusty crew wore items of clothing in orange and had small posters and postcards about the need to end violence against women and girls which they displayed on the table they took in the garden at the Inn on the Park.

Orange CafeOn this occasion there weren’t actually many women in the garden to talk to although Sarah answered a question about the significance of the orange attire from the lady who agreed to take the picture and she was very supportive. On a different, cooler day we might have been able to develop the conversation further.

We are sure there will be lots of scope at other cafes for more success on the 25th of the forthcoming months.

The 25th dates available leading up to the Oranging day itself – 25th November are: Tues 25 July ; Fri 25 Aug ; Mon 25th Sept; Wed 25th Oct – keep an eye on our programme for more information https://sigbi.org/st-albans-and-district/club-programme/.
