On 8th March, Soroptimist International Perth marked International Women’s Day with a virtual Zoom meeting, welcoming members and guests from fellow Soroptimist clubs and other women’s organisations. Our guest speaker, Louise Craig, Manager of Perth Women’s Aid, delivered a powerful and informative presentation about the charity, which was established in Perth in 1974. Louise highlighted the stark reality of domestic abuse in the UK, where on average two women each week lose their lives as a result of domestic violence. Nationally, there are around 60,000 recorded incidents each year, with more than 900 reported in the Perthshire area in the past year alone. The presentation was both moving and thought-provoking, reinforcing the vital work carried out locally to support women and families affected by abuse. We were also thrilled to have Heidi Hope, sector manager for science, engineering and aviation at Perth College UHI, join us. Here’s to an incredible year ahead!
