Bernie’s Bra Banks – the latest

Our Bra Bank project is still in full swing.

Organiser Bernie Reynolds is delighted to report that the Against Breast Cancer Bra Bank Campaign in October, which was Breast Cancer Awareness Month, has been a great success. There are 53 KG of bras waiting for collection to be sent to the Recycling Company.

Bernie with the boxes!

Bra banks have been positioned at over 20 sites. Some sites have been more successful than others and we are very grateful to Creative Hub in Cambridge Arcade, Holy Trinity Church and the One Vision Housing Complex ‘Mill Spring Court’ in Bootle.

Many of the sites are happy to ‘host’ again for us next year and some sites are happy to keep their ‘banks’ for the time being.

New sites have come on board which is also heartening. Currently there are ‘banks’ at:-

  • Baverstock House – in our Club Room
  • Mandela Yoga
  • Holy Trinity Church
  • Creative Hub
  • SDC
  • Bistro Pierre

SI President Carol Cookson met with the four ‘Pink Ladies’ from Stanley High School along with Cathy Rae, their head of Leadership.  There are lots of ideas buzzing around, with the intention of involving the whole school in fund raising activities alongside the collection of bras.  The ‘ladies’ are planning a series of assemblies and awareness raising events in January coinciding with World Cancer Day.  Against Breast Cancer will be assisting with assorted publicity materials.
We are hoping that this association with Stanley High School will continue over many years.  We are really proud to be part of the project with them.  These young ladies are our future and already embracing the values of Soroptimists.

Thank you to everyone who has supported this campaign – please continue to do so and please continue to spread the word amongst family, friends and networks.
