Soroptimists worldwide reflect on this act of misogyny that revealed a rigid mind set uncomfortable with women progressing into non-traditional roles. 31 years later we remember and regret that despite feminist progress misogynist attitudes towards them remain. Soroptimists believe that child marriage is often the result of deeply entrenched gender inequalities. We, vouch for educating girls and crafting them to lead -marriage is a deterrent to those aims. Child marriage threatens the lives, the well-being and the future of girls. UNICEF has declared child marriage is a form of violence against a child. Child marriages can increase in humanitarian crisis such as the current pandemic.
