Advocacy is an important part of Soroptimism – speaking up for those who are voiceless.
And in SI Surrey Hills, this means that we are involved in lobbying. Our member, Isobel, actively seeks out matters on which MPs, the local Councils and our members need to be updated and informed. Recently, this has included taking part in the selection of questions about women’s issues to put to candidates in the 2024 election. We have also written to our local MPs asking them to do all they can to ensure to the UK continues to support Afghan women and girls in whatever way it can. And Soroptimists including SI Surrey Hills were active in their support for non-fatal strangulation to become an offence.
