SI Surrey Hills in Bournemouth 2019

The SIGBI Federation Conference for 2019 was held in a wet and windy Bournemouth. The theme of the Conference was “Think on it”, concentrating on mental health.

SI Surrey Hills members enjoyed an action-packed weekend, full of discussion and information.  Speakers included Baroness Susan Greenfield, research scientist author and broadcaster, who emphasised the importance of story-telling in our lives,  George Anderson, a well-being mentor who encouraged us to think positive, Katy, a very courageous 15-year old who spoke movingly of her troubles with anxiety, and Penny Mallory, who wowed us with her tales of being Ford’s first female rally driver after a childhood of challenges. Our last speaker, Leyla Hussein, a well-known campaigner against FGM and founder of the Dahlia project, spoke openly and passionately about this challenging practice.

The programme ended with a lively concert by an ABBA tribute band, which had everyone dancing and singing in the aisles. A fun end to an excellent conference!
