Soroptimist Day of Action: 13th July 2024

This year supporting The Godalming and Villages Community Store tackling poverty in our area

July is the month Soroptimists join together for a day of action. The volunteer organisation, which works to improve the lives of women and girls worldwide, is shining a light on poverty as the central theme this year.

Day of Action supporting The Godalming and Villages Community Store tackling povertySurrey Hills Soroptimists are joining together with the Godalming and Villages Community Store to raise awareness of the much-needed service and to help raise contributions to their stocks. During this cost-of-living crisis, the local store has become a valuable support to many in the community.

You will find a team of Surrey Hills Soroptimists outside Sainsburys, Woolsack Way, collecting items for the Community Store on Saturday 13th July.

Surrey Hills Soroptimist and Federation President Ruth Healey recognises the importance of this amenity in our area. “We are so fortunate to have this community store in our neighbourhood. Despite the widely held perception that Surrey is an affluent area, there are many people who need help in these difficult times. We are really pleased to be able to add our support to this great project.

“If you can add an additional item to your basket on Saturday 13th to give to the Community Store, you will be supporting those who find themselves in need of a bit of extra help from our community”

Godalming Community Store is a referral-only foodbank, providing food and household supplies “from the community to the community”. Every week they publish a list of required items and there is a collection box permanently positioned in the store.
