This year supporting The Godalming and Villages Community Store tackling poverty in our area
July is the month Soroptimists join together for a day of action with poverty as the central theme this year.
Surrey Hills Soroptimists joining the Godalming and Villages Community Store to raise awareness of the much-needed service and to help raise contributions to their stocks. During this cost-of-living crisis, the local store has become a valuable support to many in the community.
We volunteered outside Sainsburys, in Godalming, handing
out leaflets containing a list of
the most important items for the Village Store as a
reminder before reaching the checkouts. Helpers at
the Village Store estimate that between 5 and 6 times
the normal amount of donations were received.
We were delighted to help in this way and many shoppers
commented that the leaflet would act
as a useful reminder for future shopping trips!
Godalming Community Store is a referral-only foodbank, providing food and household supplies “from the community to the community”. Every week they publish a list of required items and there is a collection box permanently positioned in the store.
