Mary’s Meals is a charity that provides daily nutritious meals to chronically hungry children in their local school, in several developing countries. In this way the hungry child is encouraged to attend school and, through education, gain a better future for themselves and their communities.
The school-feeding programmes are owned and run by community volunteers in the countries where Mary’s Meals provide the food. The volunteers take turns in preparing, cooking and serving the food. Wherever possible the food is locally sourced and so this supports the farmers as well as the wider communities.
Research has proven that school feeding has a range of positive impacts since children who were suffering from hunger are able to make the most of their education.
Around 57 million of the world’s hungriest children still do not attend school. In order to survive they have to work or beg. Even if they do make it to the classroom, hunger affects their ability to learn.
We have raised over £771 during the year through members donating £12.20 which feeds a child for a year, silent auctions, coffee mornings, etc…
