The members of Mansfield and district Soroptomist International (SI) group, part of a global volunteer movement working together to transform the lives of women and girls, have donated almost 40 board games to the council to be distributed to the vulnerable families that  Senior Parenting Practitioner, Anne Callaghan, works with across the district The games will encourage adults and children to interact together as a family in order to repair or build relationships, so the games will be a welcomed addition to family life this Christmas time. The local SI club was formed in October 1957 in Mansfield. Members work tirelessly for women and girls locally, nationally and globally and strive for Human Rights for all, equality, development and peace, international goodwill, understanding and friendship. Mansfield DC staff and Soroptimist members, Kam Britland and Lorraine Newby  nominated Anne to receive these games, and President of Soroptimists,

Kam our president elect has encouraged members to save ring pulls from used cans. Instead of these ring pulls finding their way into landfill sites, Kam collects them and posts them to The Purple Community Fund.The main focus of the work of the Purple Community Fund is providing opportunities for the families living in urban slums in the Philippines.The holistic combination of community projects support these families to make permanent changes to their lives.

Once again this factory in Eastwood has shown their support for SI Mansfield and District. As well as supplying surplus fabric for our ladies to sew more dresses, their apprentice Rihanna has been training to use the different sewing machines by making up these dresses. Surplus baby wear is also given to Sierra Leone, outfits are given out at the maternity hospital to all new mums.

One of our main contributors of fabric, Team Tots at Eastwood have taken on an apprentice. She has learnt to use each of the sewing machines by making 90 dresses for our Africa Project. Gill Curry has also delivered Team Tots substandard babywear to a Maternity Clinic in Sierra Leone. All new babies are kitted out in clothes, given a blanket and soap. The mothers are delighted with these gifts.

An invitation to visit Hodsock Priory was taken up by members in July this year. George Buchannan who resides at the historical property with his family gave an enlighten talk on its history. It is famous for the display of Snowdrops in February and Bluebells in April in the woodlands. After a meal was had, a tour around the Priory showcasing the new wedding venue and bedrooms for the wedding party.
