Region Centenary Banner

Centenary Banner

Introduction to the SI Cheshire, North Wales and Wirral banner

The beautiful banner/table frontal has been completed by members of SI CNWW not only to celebrate the Centenary of Soroptimist International, but also in memory of Barbara Dixon, a much loved Soroptimist, and an accomplished embroiderer!

The concept was discussed by Barbara Dixon and Pam Cheesley Hollinshead (Regional President 2018-2020) early in 2019 as the celebrations for the SI Centenary were beginning to be discussed.

The original plan had been for each club to embroider a facsimile of the club Insignia.  There have been historically 24 clubs within our region and currently there are 15 very active clubs spread across our Region which additionally crosses two countries!

Caroline Kesby from SI South Caernarvonshire, ably assisted by Diane Bennett, our Regional Treasurer led the project, which started to develop; some clubs came back with wonderful designs, rather than their Presidential Gongs, these included depictions of their localities or interpretations of elements of their regalia. Different clubs used different mediums; embroidery, tapestry, applique, all melding into the beautiful work of art we now have – a huge accolade to all the women over the past 100 years across the world who have stood up for women.

Thanks to Region Clubs and to all members who have contributed to this super work of art.

We will cherish it as a reminder of all the clubs in our Region – Past and Present,  who have made a difference Locally Nationally and Internationally
